OUR CHURCH IS RE-OPENING FOR SUNDAY SERVICES ON 13TH SEPTEMBER

You can find resources for worship, including video-services and materials for worship at home, on our Video Services page (see tab on left).

St Lawrence Church is now re-opening. From Sunday 13 September, we will hold a simple, said service of Holy Communion in St Lawrence at 9.00am. This will last around half an hour. There will be a limit of around 25-30 people who can attend, due to 2-metre social distancing measures. Places where people may sit have been marked up in church, there will be hand sanitising on entry, there will be no singing, communion will be received in one kind only (the wafer). Face coverings are currently compulsory in church unless you are exempt.
People need to indicate in advance their wish to attend, so we can ensure numbers remain within the limit.  Booking is essential.  If we find that more people than we have capacity for in church regularly want to attend, we will look at ways of increasing capacity, which could include a second service, or possibly an ‘overflow’ via video-relay in the Church Centre.

BOOKING DETAILS:

To book places you need to:

    • Phone or email the Parish Office between Monday 9am and the end of Wednesday in the week leading up to the Sunday you want to attend. (You can leave a phone message if no-one is there to take your call). So, for Sunday 13th September bookings will open on Monday 7th September at 9am and close at midnight on Wednesday 9th.

    • When you phone or email you will need to state the number and names of people who wish to attend in your household group.

    • On the Thursday you will receive a message from the Parish Office (email or phone call) letting you know if you have been allocated a place for the Sunday. This will also include a reminder of the restrictions in place and what you can expect on the day.

    • Those who requested a place but did not get one will be given priority for the following Sunday.

    • You can only book in for the Sunday immediately coming up. The booking process for the following Sunday starts afresh the next week, Monday 9am until the end of Wednesday

    • Please let us know in advance if you are exempt from wearing a face mask.
  • Alongside this service in church, we will continue to provide the weekly video-service in its current form as well as the weekly Worship at Home printed material. This will give the opportunity of joining in singing in with the video service at home. People will be encouraged to watch the video service, including those who have attended the communion service, at around 10am if they can. We will not be able to provide refreshments or an opportunity for social engagement after the service in church, so will continue with the weekly ‘After Church Coffee’ over Zoom.

So the new Sunday morning pattern of services from 13 September will be:

  • 9.00am            Said Holy Communion service in Church

    10.00am          Video Service at home

10.45-11.15am  “After Church Coffee” via Zoom video-call

  • Funerals are allowed to be held on a very restricted basis, at the Crematorium, in Church or at the Graveside in the Churchyard.

    Daily Worship:

Here is a link to the daily worship website of the Church of England. It has options for morning, evening and night prayer, and you can select traditional or contemporary versions. It uses the Church of England lectionary, so the readings change and you don't need a bible to hand as it is all reproduced on screen for you. It works on tablets, laptops and smart phones! We hope you find this useful for your personal prayer times.
