Here at St Lawrence we are a small friendly church situated at the heart of Barnwood. We offer a wide range of Church of England services to suit any visitor to our church.

Morning Prayer on Mondays:

Starting on Monday 4 June we will be gathering every Monday morning for Morning Prayer in church, from 09.00 – 09.30. This will be an opportunity to start the week together with God. We will follow the pattern of Morning Prayer from the Church of England’s Common Worship Daily Prayer, which includes praise, a psalm, a reading from scripture, silence for reflection, and space for prayers of intercession for our church and community, for the wider world, and for particular individuals in need. All are welcome. The church will be open from 08.45am, and you are encouraged to arrive between 08.45 and 08.55 if you can, so we can prepare ourselves in silence and stillness before we start at 09.00.

EXPERIENCE CREATION is a new monthly activity for children in parallel to the 9.45am service.  The next session is this Sunday 17th June.  'Experience Creation' is a journey that explores six creation themes over six months.  It roughly follows the 'creation days' as described in the book of Genesis, chapter 1.  It helps children to explore and discover the amazing world God has made and learn about his love for it.  Each session begins with an outdoor exploration in the arboretum, followed by crafts, games, discussion and refreshments at the church centre.  It is aimed at primary school-aged children, but older children are welcome to come along and younger ones may stay if accompanied by an adult.  Parents can drop their children at 9.30am at the Centre and collect them at 11am.  We will need several helpers per session.  For more information or offers of help, please contact Petra Crofton (Tel: 01452 688761 or email petravanrijssen@gmail.com

Vicar Appointment:  We are delighted to announce that the Revd Rob Crofton, previously Team Vicar in the West Cheltenham Team Ministry, has now started with us as Vicar of St Lawrence, Barnwood.

Rob has been a priest in the Diocese of Gloucester for 11 years.  Before training for ordination, he worked for A Rocha, the Christian charity helping churches to care for God's creation.  He is passionate about prayer, the Bible, and helping people grow in faith.  He is married to Petra, who is from the Netherlands, and they have three children: Nina (aged 12), Matthias (aged 10) and Thomas (aged 8).

Rob says:  "Petra and I are so excited at God's call to us to serve Him in Barnwood.  We look forward to getting to know everyone at St Lawrence's, sharing our life together, and growing as a church in serving God's mission in Barnwood."

Thank you to everyone who has prayed and supported us during the vacancy and we give thanks to God and look forward to this next stage in our life together.

COFFEE SHOP:   Come along and join us for coffee, cake and a friendly chat.  Open from 9am - 11.30am.  We look forward to seeing you.

s Welcome:

All visitors are very welcome. On Sundays we serve tea and coffee in the Parish Centre at 11.00am following Parish Communion. To find out more about what you can expect on a Sunday please see our visitors page.
We try to accommodate pushchairs and buggies wherever possible, either in church or in the centre. Occasionally, at very busy services (Christmas for example) it might not be safe to have pushchairs or buggies in church, but we are very happy to hold babies and help unload and park buggies somewhere safe so that you can enjoy the service.

There are regular services held at St Lawrence C of E Church. Families find our specially designed Let's Praise and Let's Celebrate services welcoming and fun.

The church family also offers extra events and weekly groups to cater for all needs and interests. See the meetings page for further details.

Prayer requests and visits:

If you have a prayer request, please either fill in one of our prayer/visit request cards in church, or email the church administrator or phone to ask for your request to be added to our list - we are pleased to pray and like to hear updates too. We also offer visits (including home communion if desired) - please contact the church office. When the church is open, you are invited to light a candle by way of prayer. You may need to ask the church office to provide a lighter. It is wise to check that the church is open before you make your journey - please call the office on 01452 372731.

Daily Worship:

Here is a link to the daily worship website of the Church of England. It has options for morning, evening and night prayer, and you can select traditional or contemporary versions. It uses the Church of England lectionary, so the readings change and you don't need a bible to hand as it is all reproduced on screen for you. It works on tablets, laptops and smart phones! We hope you find this useful for your personal prayer times.
